What are those levels of assurance?

A level of assurance identifies the extent to which we have validated your identity. The higher the level, the more assurance someone has that whoever is presenting credentials is indeed the person one pretends to be.

Basic

Software credential that is stored on your own computer or device. This level only requires verification through your employer.

Medium Software

Software credential that is stored on your own computer or device. This level requires an in-person meeting with one of our trusted agents who will validate physical identity proofs from a list of accepted items.

CIV

Hardware credential that is stored on its own dedicated smart card. This level requires an in-person meeting with one of our trusted agents who will validate physical identity proofs from a list of accepted items. CIV is also sometimes referred to as PIV-C.

PIV-I

Hardware credential that is stored on its own dedicated smart card. This level requires an in-person meeting with one of our trusted agents who will validate physical identity proofs from a strict list of accepted items, scan your fingerprints, take your picture, and accept a signed declaration of identity. All according to the trusted protocols mandated by the United States of America's Federal Identity, Credential, and Access Management.
